How to sell a PlayStation or Xbox gift card for cash

Money in a PlayStation wallet or a Microsoft account can't be withdrawn: it can only be spent on games and subscriptions. But a gift card that hasn't been redeemed yet still can be sold. Here's how it works and what gets a card rejected.

Step by step

Why cards get rejected
- The card is from another country than the one chosen — both PSN and Microsoft balances are region-locked.
- A physical card wasn't activated at the till.
- The code was bought with someone else's payment card and was later revoked by Sony or Microsoft.
And as with any gift card: if someone asked you to buy PlayStation or Xbox cards to pay them, it's a scam. Fake "Microsoft support" calls are a classic.
Can I sell the money already in my PSN wallet or Microsoft account?
No. Account balances can't be transferred; only unredeemed codes can be sold.
